JSR MTF Calculations

Current high feed prices mean that it is more important than ever to know the return on the feed purchased for the business, after all feed costs equate to over 60% of the cost of production!

Many producers cannot easily measure FCR so JSR suggest using MTF (meat sold per tonne of feed purchased), which does not involve any weighing of pigs or feed on farm and automatically adjusts for mortality and killing out percentage.

MTF is hence the simplest and most useful measurement and from simply using feed invoices and slaughter house returns, it can be calculated by dividing the total amount of meat sold by the total tonnage of feed purchased – JSR work towards a commercial target of 325kgs MTF Deadweight or 433kgs Liveweight.

Have a look at our easy-to use calculator and see where you rank on our league of ten current JSR customers. If your MTF falls short of where you would like it to be, we would be delighted to advise you on how you can improve things!

You will need the following data for a given period of time (JSR would suggest using a minimum of 6 months)
Tonnes of feed purchased (don’t include sow feed)
No of animals sold
Average Deadweight or Liveweight of animals sold
